Hi NickDW, welcome to the Sony Forums

With older cams connectivity can be a problem, but you should be ok with XP. Are you running the 32-bit or 64-bit version?

You might also get better results with an i.Link (firewire) cable, which plugs into the DV-out port on your camera and requires an i.Link port on your PC.

If none of this works you could try alternative software. Windows Live is a viable free alternative: http://windows.microsoft.com/is-IS/windows-live/movie-maker-get-started

Hope something there helps.

Mick

There are other benefits, but the main advantage is that 64-bit operating systems let you address much larger amounts RAM, speeding up everyday tasks and allowing greater simultaneous tasking. If your computer has more than one core (eg. core 2 duo) it can multitask a lot more, assuming you're running >4Gb RAM.

There are incompatibilities of course, but these will become less as more apps are developed for the 64-bit OS. Obviously older apps will need the older 32-bit OS, as is the case with some versions of PMB, and eventually some new apps won't be developed for 32-bit at all.

Upgrading at some point in the near future would be advisable, but I'd also advise keeing a bootable 32-bit version somewhere, just in case

Cheers

Mick
