Hi, sorry to raise the issue again, but recently I asked the question that when I tilt or zoom the camera the mode select apears on the screen and prevents me taking a quick shot until it clears, the solution suggested of resetting seemed to cure the problem but alass only for a short while, the problem has returned and if anything, worse, originally another more extensive reset was suggested, could anybody advise how I can undertake this?

Since you've already tried resetting your camera and the issue remains I can only advise having it inspected at the Sony service centre as it could be hardware related. You can this link to get the service centre contact details.
