Sony PS-HX500 Hi Res Audio Turntable

Hi all!

I currently have my Sony PS-HX500 Turntable connected to my Sony CMT-SX7B Hi Fi System via the Audio In connection.

Anyway my question is, I've been told various things by Sony Support regarding the Sony CMT-SX7B! First I was told no, unfortunately you wont be able to play CDs via multi-room on this device, but then today, apparently I can play CDs to various multi-room speakers. But I also wanted to know if the Audio In connection on the Sony CMT-SX7B was also compatible with multi-room to allow me to play the sound from the Sony PS-HX500 turntable to other Sony multi-room speakers? As I think Sony Support just thought I meant connecting the turntable directly to a wireless speaker, which of course with the turntable not being bluetooth I did not!

Hope that makes sense, and someone with experience of these devices and multi-room speakers can help!

To be honest im starting to slowly lose faith in Sony with regards to multi-room!

I basically get different replies everytime I contact Sony support!

1st, I couldnt play the sound from CDs to multi-room with the Sony CMT-SX7B, then I could. (Despite alot of people on the community saying that it's still not possible, unless you have a Sony multi-room Blu-ray player)

Then, I get told that the turntable isn't multi-room compatible, so wont be able to play the sound to Sony wireless multi-room speakers. After explaining that I know the turntable isn't directly a 'multi-room device' but im using it connected to the Sony CMT-SX7B via the 'Audio In' connection, they replied with it might work, but they couldnt guarantee it!

You would think Sony knew what their products can and can't do!? Rather than have people spend money on the off chance that it "might work"

At least Sonos are clear on what you can and can't do with their multi-room devices. However, if I can I'd like to stick with Sony as their speaker connection options are alot better than just Wi-Fi like Sonos.

Essentially, I'd just like to play CDs and vinyls along with streaming services via multi-room! But Sony make it over complicated!

Hi Wozzy78,

I would say that the Wozzy78 is multi-room compatible, so as all the devices mentioned by Sony in the following link: https://bit.ly/2JFbwMu.

Only the CMT can be used as a source to play music to the connected multi-room network, however, it can play only content on a CD and maybe USB, but it won't play content on the multi-room network if the source of music is a different device (like the turntable) connected to the CMT by any means.

Thanks for the reply Almou_10! But I’m not sure the ‘Wozzy78’ is compatible with multi-room!? 😉 haha.

It’s a shame most of the Sony multi-room speakers have an Audio In port built in when they don’t allow its use in a multi-room network.

I wonder what Sonos put in that little box they call the ‘Connect’ that allows the streaming of vinyls and CDs to their multi-room speakers? On the outside it’s just a lot of connection inputs (Audio In, Audio Out etc) Surely Sony could allow this feature on their multi-room setup with just a software/firmware update or something?

Maybe the only way I can fulfill my requirements is to connect my Sony PS-HX500 turntable along with my Sony CMT-SX7B Hi-Fi Sound System to a Sonos Connect along with their Sonos One speaker!? (Does mean spending a total of £550 for that pleasure mind you, along with wasting all of the Sony’s built in WiFi/Bluetooth streaming capabilities to set them up on a Sonos multi-room network. Just wish Sony had the total solution!
