Combining inputs on STR-DH520

Hi,

I've had my STR-DH520 for a couple years now and it's great, but recently I've wanted to try something that I'm not sure is possible.

I have my computer running via SPDIF to the amp, and I have plans to get an Alexa, which has a 3.5mm jack for plugging into the amp. However, I'd prefer not to swap inputs for these, and would like to combine them so they both come out of the speakers on a single input selection.

Is this possible with the amplifier itself? If not, does anybody have any suggestions for ways to go about this? I'd prefer not to convert the SPDIF to 3.5mm if possible, as I'd prefer the input to the amp be optical. I'd also prefer not to pay a huge amout for a professional mixing setup to do this.

I know it'd be possible to convert the 3.5mm to optical, then use something else to mix the optical signals, but I'm assuming there's an easier way to do this.

Thanks for joining the community. I don't have a definitive answer for you but perhaps you will be able to find a converter to optical as you say. There is a help guide for your product here that might help you determine what is possible.

Hi @Makeshift27015,

if you keep your PC always running, you could try to route the 3.5mm line-in signal of your soundcard (if your computer has one) to the optical output as well.

At least that would be how I would approach this problem.

Rather than keep my PC on all the time, I've decided to try something a bit interesting - I've got myself a USB optical in/out card plus a raspberry pi, and I'm going to see if I can use some software on the Pi to mix audio.

that sounds like an interesting solution!
