as you can see it has the at&t logo, it's not unlocked, but its contract free or locked to a contract.

you could unlock it and then you will be able to use any SIM card, you can contact AT&T, why don't you buy the Xperia T, that should be unlocked, the TL is the same but with 4G LTE that it's not compatible with 4G LTE in Europe

If you want an unlocked phone get the T, not the TL. T also supports bootloader unlock while the TL does not

there is no xperia t on sony store in us. only on amazon.com but i dont prefer to buy by amazon.com. is it possible to unlock it by contacting at&t?

you can contact Sony and tell them that you are going to travel abroad, so you need to be able to use other SIM cards, if not then

Personally gonna pass on non-sdcard phones with 16gb internal storage.. Already did that with the HTC one S and if you backup your rom with stuff like Titanium backup, cwm, and store media you run out of space way too easily...

I agree, but I've used up all my Xperia S's memory with pictures, I don't care about music as I have google music (you can store up to 20,000 songs free)

The unlock codes are provided by the carrier. Sony will tell you to contact AT&T, then AT&T will tell you they do not provide the unlock codes for this phone (as they normally do not until the phone is older).

T/TX isn't being sold in the US only the TL. Currently you can't get an unlocked TL in the US but Sony is discussing bringing one to market through Amazon/Newegg and other third party vendors. Its not for sure now but it is being discussed. If you are willing to wait it out, though the 2013 phones are coming fast and sound amazing.

why don't you buy the Xperia T, that should be unlocked, the TL is the same but with 4G LTE....

Xperia T isn't sold in the US. Its the international version. It is lacking the software for the LTE radio and is sold unbranded so you can unlock the bootloader.

correct me if I'm wrong but it's not just software that it lacks but hardware too, regarding 4G LTE.

the Xperia T its available on ebay so anyone here in the US can get it, but the Xperia TL it's really cheap w/ at&t $100USD

Looks like you are right, I had read previously that it had the same SoC as the TL but was software restricted for LTE access but looks like its actually using the same SoC as the TX which is the S4 dual core that lacks LTE. MSM8260A vs MSM8960
