As the title says, a new firmware has been released to the xs, anybody have it yet ? anything new or improvements in this one ?

Id love to be able to answer but of course there is no update avaiable for UK SIM free handsets.

The thing is given many of us laid out an initial payment of around £400 for the Xperia S it isnt unreasonable to expect some level of technical support from Sony without resorting to using flashtool.

I'm not asking or telling you to use Flashtool I am merely providing the firmware for those that like to update there phones manually or like to test out other country firmwares and other Firmware versions or revisions - Me I'm still using Gingerbread untill they fix the wi-fi issue which is my biggest issue

To sony if you not going to send us any updates in the UK dont bother sending your phones here i have been having problems since i got the device reception keeps dropping and 3g takes me 5 mins to connect to internet

Download yesterday. Seems like they have finally fixed the camera quick launch, phone proximity issue.

Weirdly Thommo the WiFi seems to be the one thing that is working quite well for me. The indicated strength on the phone is show low but using WiFi Analyzer i can see that the actual strength is no different to what it was in GB

I cant believe XP is having 801 mb usable ram. of course after loading 450mb free can see greater than 200mb in XS

I manually flashed the .55 firmware. One noticeable improvement is the camera quick launch/fast capture. It works all the time now, at least for me. I've yet to test the battery life.

Not much improvement on the battery end. Android System still stays awake even in Flight Mode or with Wifi/Data turned off. If in idle mode, managed to substain battery for 1 day 5 hours before battery level drops to 25%. When active, Xperia S continue to drain battery.

The major changes in 6.1.A.2.55 are bugfixes related to issues raised by local operators, so this update is network operator specific. For more information if you will get this update you can contact your network operator.

weird that UK has not received any firmware's since the initial ICS release for its SIM free handsets given the firmware is bug ridden. Handy the SI numbers has gone as well so we cant keep track of the time since this rubbish was forced on us.

As gabzki said, the noticeable improvement after upgrading to .55 (in Egypt) is that the camera quick launch is working properly on each time you use it (it takes approximately one second to capture).
