Why is there no setting option to "disable" Dolby Vision? (XG9005)

On the XG9005 some programmes (especially on netflix) actually look worse on the XG with Dolby Vision than they do on the XE9005 with HDR10. Sabrina (which I have discussed in another thread) is one of those programmes. Its not great on either TV to be honest in HDR as its just too dark, its actually more watchable in SDR. Dolby Vision on the XG actually makes things much, much worse because the XG exhibits horrendous blooming in the black bars on this programme, its not a general issue with HDR content but Sabrina almost seems to turn light zones on and off on the FALD, completely at odds with what is being displayed on the screen.

Why in their wisdom did Sony not add a setting to "disable DV" like you can with standard HDR. Its a clear example of where a switch between No HDR, HDR10 or DV would allow the user to view the content in the way they prefer.

Netflix seems to if you have a premium package and a DV set, you get DV if the programme offers it. So the only way around it is to use an external device without DV or downgrade the Netflix package.

Hi, I was wondering if you have applied the latest firmware updates to your 49XG9005 and if they have fixed the black bar blooming issue as I have been considering getting this tv but have read a lot about this issue and it has been putting me off getting one. Also was wondering if you can tell me if there are any significant differences in performance between this tv and the bigger screen versions, 55XG9505 upwards? Many thanks

Unfortunately not, the blooming with HDR material (its not just DV really) is quite harsh on my XG9005 and cinema black bars are a big weakness for this TV. Maybe its a panel lottery or maybe the larger XG95's don't suffer so much. I really don't know. The XG95 have a slightly enhanced ATV setup (with more ram, although my XG9005 performance on Android TV is actually not too bad with Oreo). I believe they also have a few more bells and whistles, such as eARC. The XG95 does have reports of similar blooming though but, again it might be a panel lottery issue.

I have a Sony 4k 65' X900F and I have the same problem , the image looks horrendous, I have to switch to my old samsung to watch all those with Dolby Vision

Yeh. Not sure why this would not be technically possible in the Sony software.

I completely agree. Trying to watch Dolby Vision content is impossible and all that would be needed to allow us to avoid the problem until Dolby or Sony fixes the horrible experience would be a setting or switch to turn off Dolby Vision.

For the time being, we are forced to watch all content that is in Dolby Vision on our old AppleTV which looks soooo much better despite being older, "lesser" technology.

Sony -- please allow us to turn off Dolby Vision!

Same here . Sony x900h series. Sony must let us disable dolby vision option.

There is no standard for hdr picture .

can't you just disable it under picture options while watching some HDR? It should stay like that after.

No i cannot if it is Dolby vision . The option is disabled In other hdr content it can . ,!

No unfortunately not. There is no way to disable it.

The answer from my country Sony support is that there is no mulfunction in the tv so they close the case!

Same here. Just had a lengthy chat with tech support and they tell me it's the apps not the TV. Yet I can turn off DV on the XBOX using all the same apps. They are telling me to shove it and it's not their fault, it's Netflix, Disney +, etc
