When I switch on the TV (KD55A1) with the remote, the white indicator on light glows and the TV then switches itself off. If I try again, it usually switches on and stays on

Does unplugging the TV from the mains for a minute help?

When did this start to happen? Was there a new software update recently installed?

The problem developed about 6 months ago , no new installs involved so and I mentioned it to my local Sony shop. He referred me to yourselves, but it is not too much of a problem to press the On button again, but I finally thought I should mention it. I did try the re-boot method, suggested also by my Sony dealer, but it didn't make any difference

This could be just a glitch. Have you tried to fully reset the TV to factory settings? You'll find the steps in this article: https://www.sony.co.uk/electronics/support/televisions-projectors/articles/00122829

Yup, I have the same issue. I thought it was a surge to the power unit following the storm last night.. but it worked earlier in the day and then would not turn off. Now my TV turns on only if I long hold press the power button (remote or on the TV) and only loads as far as the colourful 4 dots on the android screen. I have tried the factory reset ( power and volume buttons) 5 times and no joy. Really annoying if this means the TV has died.

I have also got the same problem on my KDL-65W850C TV. The problem started yesterday morning. I have tried all the usual things, i.e. disconnected all other inputs/outputs, disconnected mains power for at least 6 hours then reconnecting. When I plug the mains in, the TV tries to run the android startup, i.e. the 4 animated coloured icons appear on screen for about 20 seconds, then the TV just shuts off for about 1 minute before trying the same startup procedure again, with the same result. This just repeats for as long as the mains power is connected. I hope there is a solution available soon.

Same here! Exactly the same. Hope we can get some answers. I’ve emailed Sony as their customer service centre doesn’t operate over the weekend (it’s now 7.45 am in the UK)

I tried the reset, what a chore to reinstall everything and set up the screen the way I like it. My problem has not yet re-occured, but it was always intermittent. I will keep you posted

Are Sony going to accept that the firmware update has effectively damaged the mainboard? This is unacceptable and rightly so tarnish their brand. I wouldn’t consider a Sony tv again

Have you tried to do a forced factory reset 5 times: http://bit.ly/2Xna889 ? I've heard that performing this more than once might solve the issue.

I was about to reply today. I haven't had any problems since the recent software update. I think we can cancel this problem, but I will report back if it re-occurs

Yup.. sadly that didn’t work either. It’s a repair job and it’s between AO who have happily agreed to pay for the repair and Sony to arrange it. Sony however have been extremely poor in their response

It's good to know that the retailer will cover the expenses. I believe the repair should be arranged from their side directly if your TV is out of the manufacturer warranty.

Now just the small issue of Sony not playing ball with organising the repair! They’ve even asked me how much it would cost!

I cannot even to understand the logic displayed by Sony in this issue.

right.. im going to the sony centre in my local town, taking whichever TV I fancy and leaving mine there. Absolute farce of a company. No adequate response and it's been a long time now
